About UFO Tech
To be shot on RedOne
UFO Tech is back with a fire-breathing vengeance. Casey here was so
awesome in our last films Flying Tiger and The Clinic, we made him best
man in our wedding. That's pretty good, huh? Wanna know how you can get
in our next wedding? Kick butt in our next film. That's how. Casey
plays BOB.
Owen Miller
UFO Tech is proud to announce Owen Miller has moved from "attached"
status to "locked!" Owen has a voice like Morgan Freeman, except Owen's
younger and boxes. Kudos to
stuntman Jared DePasquale for introducing him to us. Here is more on him.
Freddie Toussaint
Freddie plays "T" in Gutter King. Check him out on the set and on myspace where he is a badass musician.
Mason Sharrow
Stuntmen
- Mason Sharrow started his stunt career by jumping into the Terminator
2: 3D Show at Universal Studios Florida as "John Connor." He's been
doing martial arts for 12 years and currently is training in MMA at
Hybrid Martial Arts in St. Cloud. He's also currently being cast for
the Season 2 of MTV's new show "A Shot at Love." He will be a Stuntman, Precision
Driver and featured extra in Gutter King.
Ricardo Williams
You have to see one of our fighter's cool sites. The official Ricardo Williams website & blog features updates on new music projects, professional experiences in filmmaking, traveling at the drop of a dime, and reviewing underground artists and popular culture.
Soderbergh on RED
His comments after finishing "Guerrilla"- shot in Spain:
"If
the technical branch of the AMPAS, sometime in the next five years,
doesn’t present RED with something heavier than a piece of paper, then
they’re fools, and inattentive to boot.
"Shooting
with RED is like hearing The Beatles for the first time. RED sees the
way I see. Someday I hope to find out exactly how Jim and his team made
something so technologically advanced seem so organic, so beautifully
attuned to that most natural of phenomena, light. But for now I’m just
glad I’ve got my hands on the damn thing, because it’s actually making
the film(s) better because of it emotionality. At the same time, I am
still figuring it out, still trying to discover its secrets, still
interacting with it. For me, this is Year Zero; I feel I should call up
Film on the phone and say, “I’ve met someone.” Is it perfect? Not yet.
But the flaws are fixable (the heat issue, which is being worked on;
buttons that should be recessed; power cable from the rear of the
camera), and anybody who doesn’t embrace the flashcard--regardless of
time restraints--is an idiot.
"But the best news of all is: If my lame hyperbole could adequately describe the image, it wouldn’t be RED." Steven Soderbergh

For Immediate Release
FEATURE FILM TO BE SHOT ENTIRELY IN ORLANDO ON NEW ULTRA-HD "RED" CAMERA
Local Filmmakers shoot fight drama "Gutter King" this March
Orlando, FL - October 11, 2007
Gutter King
is an urban coming-of-age fight drama about a tough street kid just
released from the Juvenile Department of Corrections. His new foster
father tries to channel the boy's rage into the world of amateur fighting, but his jealous
brother wants him dead.
Gutter King
is based on Keith Alan Morris' award-winning short stories that won the
prestigious Schneider Prize and Cooper Award for best short fiction. Gutter King will be shot on the breakthrough RED
camera, the only ultra-HD digital cinema camera in the world (Super
35mm quality). Only 200 RED cameras are on the market today, while more
cameras are rolling out every few weeks. Peter Jackson is a staunch
supporter of the RED and Stephen Soderbergh has shot two features with
the camera already. His third film with the RED starring Matt Damon
begins in March. Soderbergh is quoted as saying, " I feel I should call
up Film on the phone and say, 'I've met someone.'"
WHO: Actors from Orlando are needed.
WHEN: Rolling auditions will continue until December 7. Filled positions will be listed on the Morris' website http://filmscout.org as they are cast. Principal photography shoot dates are: March 15-April 1 st .
WHERE: Gutter King will be shot entirely in Orlando, FL.
WHY: The film is Morris' graduate thesis film in the new UCF Graduate Film Program.
Gutter King , reminiscent of Fight Club and American Beauty, is Morris' third feature film. The Best Screenplay award-winning The Clinic and Flying Tiger both screened at the Cannes Film Festival market and the NY Int'l Indie Film Fest , among others. Flying Tiger also screened at the San Diego First Night Celebration (where more than 30,000 people watched the movie). Both films were also offered international distribution.
###
Quotes on the script:
"Jackpot.
Gutter King is the best one yet. Awesome. That whole thing of a person
trying to do good despite overwhelming odds is amazing. It's
Springsteen, it's America, it's the ultimate heroic story. Who do I get
to play?"
--Casey Clark, first cast actor from NYC
"I
am a big fan of Keith Alan Morris' script writing abilities. I was
impressed with his script "The Clinic" and even more impressed with
"Flying Tiger." But it appears that Keith has gone to a new level with
"Gutter King." It's a wonderful story that has action and adventure and
at the same time is laden with rich characters. As a writer and
director, Keith is someone who has the ability to draw his audience in
and keep them watching the screen to the end."
--Kevin O'Neill, actor
Writer/Director quote:
"As
a kid I dreamed of traveling the world and making feature films, but
wasn't sure how I'd realize such dreams. As an adult I hope to
encourage others with similar aspirations and challenges, but limited
resources."

unit shot 3 pages at night. All we can say is: we love the RED CAMERA!
It shoots how you see--only better!
We went all quiet on the western front for a few weeks as we ramped up
for production. A million things happened--We should've journaled. We
added seasoned producer Melissa Conrad to our team and boy wonder Max
Miller. Thank you so much to everyone who came in to meet with Raoul.
Ricardo may be on Twitter soon keeping tabs on how it is going and what
we're doing. A big shout out to boxer Guiseppe Bagheri who landed smack
dab in the opening scene of the whole movie as Joe Pengalo.
Well,
its 1am--7:30am calltime and heir director has to go fetch bagels
first, so more later! We will link to Ricardo's Twitter soon. (Psssst!
Check out something new at GutterKing.TV.)
Heroes
of the day: Guisseppe and Matt Hutchens. Guisseppe because he let us
beat him up over and over today. (Well, he got in a few good licks
too.) Matt is a whiz on camera and we went handheld all day and he
survived! That camera is heavy!

Been a few days since I've written, hasn't
it? It's because we've been a little busy. :) ... This Sunday finalists
read with Zeb. Finalists will receive emails this week with location
and time. ... Shot tests all weekend, and now Thursday night too. I'm
still recovering. I'm also prepping for the "Star Chamber"--the final
defense of my thesis proposal. Two major steps down, one to go! All
just to get to do the real work of shooting the thing! From last
weekend: Blake Logan wins best "in shape" award. Mason Sharrow wins
best "can throw a punch (and take one--or five!)" Ricardo Williams wins
"prettiest." Owen Miller wins "best delivery"--he's my one-take
machine. Mike Yebba wins "most like Ryan Phillippe"--a dead ringer in
similar delivery, cadence, tone, etc. It all comes down to this
weekend. Won't we all be glad that the wait will soon be over?
km - 1-23-08
Explosive
new Red footage. (right click/Save target as; Mac users hold option
key) Matt and I are out shooting tests today...tests for our tests. :)
Thanks to Justin for hustling for Joes at the gym (as per my To-Do List
on the right.) I'll be doing the same this weekend, so don't feel bad.
km - 1-19-08
This is a good day. We locked our 2nd biggest
location. What a cool place and bunch of guys. I'll post their address
after the weekend. ... My neighbor crashed his Harley in my FRONT YARD.
They're ok. Those curbs can jump up and bite you. ... Saw Juno. Loved
it. Our movie will be a little more that (well, I keep saying Fight
Club meets American Beauty) and a little less this. Thank God our movies are so different. Phew. Not that there's anything WRONG with that type of movie. And heck, I wish I had a 45 million dollar budget. Thanks for hangin' in with us little guys. :)
km - 1-18-08
We got that email from UCF looking for
bloggers. Sign us up! Actors from UCF, you should sign up too and
spread the love. It might be interesting to have more than one
perspective on our casting process that is similar to American Idol.
lol. Oy. ... Drumroll, please! We're doing boxing ring tests this
weekend! We did exterior lighting tests all last night too. Matt built
some great lights from scratch. For you techies--thats big huge china
balls that are 1k and plug into a car lighter! Yes, we elves continue
to work on Gutter King thru the night... :)
km - 1-16-08
Mason Sharrow is going to be on Addicted to
Love 2. We should time the release of Gutter King to the premiere of
the show for possible free marketing. When all the little teeny-boppers
are swooning over Mason, BAM! There will be us. lol They'll want him in
movies, posters, lunchboxes, video games... (chuckle) His photo above
is pretty SWEET. ... Yebba and Ramirez had their mtgs and did great.
It's a dead heat--all comes down to the weekend of the 26th. ... This
weekend is going to be SO MUCH FUN. We here at UFO Technologies can't
wait.
km - 1-15-08
Answering email questions: What I'm watching:
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. L'Eclisse. Au Hasard Balthazar. The Hoax.
Zero Day. Mitch Hedberg: Mitch All Together. Jeff Tweedy: Sunken
Treasure. ... Who I want to have a Michelob Ultra with: Sean Penn. What
blog I'm reading: Yewknee.com. I got a new haircut. Matt says I look emo. This is getting too personal.
km - 1-12-08
Added the YouTube link on Gutterking.TV. Click on SHARE right under the video and email it to your friends! Maybe we'll get more views than Charlie the Unicorn--over 20 million and counting--done by a former student of mine (Listen to me, I'm like a proud papa.) ... Met
with Erica Ramirez last night. ... Next I will be emailing everyone
something. Check your in-box in a few days. MAKEUP ARTISTS we've worked
with, GIVE ME A SHOUT! Last one to email me is a rotten egg. :)
km - 1-11-08
More surprises. PUBLIC: many have sent nice
emails and thanks SO MUCH for the kind words. Lots of people have
questions, and you can COMMENT publicly and privately.
Me, Matt or Kendra try to reply to every email, and we're working out a
better system. We may switch to NING and make everything interactive.
My boy Manny just moved to San Fran so we now have an in at Ning.
Hmmm... ... FINALISTS: First, I have a date for second callbacks!
Please know your lines, guys please keep doing that workout. We're
flying Zeb in Sat January 26-Mon 28 to read opposite everyone.
FINALISTS, keep that weekend open and be in Orlando. PAULS &
JULIANS: Saturday night. BeBes on Sunday morning. ALL FINALISTS: On
call Sunday afternoon and night. All times subject to change, but dates
will not. I would keep that weekend open completely. ... Mike Yebba is
in for his meeting next Tues. ... We are adding two new PAs. We'll post
their names and pics soon. (Since this is a team effort, everyone is
equally important.) MAKEUP people who were at the photoshoot, if you
follow this blog religiously, email me asap. ... Thanks to Matt and
Ricardo for posting our photoshoot vid on Facebook. You made us look
good tonite. Just go to YouTube and type in Gutter King. Nice! I am in
the process of making the gutterking.tv site compatible with the iPhone since I keep bumping into people who
have them and they love it when I show them the site on it. I'm gonna
get one of the new ones that are supposedly faster, I hope they come
out soon. Lots of cool things coming--under wraps for now. Stay tuned..
:)
km - 1-10-08
Cool, gritty Brooklyn footage from the Red camera, the camera we hope to be using. Ah, I miss
Brookyln, but not that cold weather. Once, my hands froze to the
tripod. Erica Ramirez (above) is in on Thursday for her meeting...
Offtopic--the candidate that best matches your interests. The concept is solid. My results surprised me actually.
km - 1-9-08
Oh no he di'int! Check out the new behind-the-scenes video of the photoshoot! Including sneak peeks of other non-retouched photos and Elvis.
km - 1-7-08
Today something cool will be posted at GutterKing.TV!
km - 1-7-08
Ricardo impressed. We rescheduled Mike Yebba and Erica Ramirez for this week.
km - 1-6-08
Ok, I'm done retouching for awhile. Phew! Check out the new photos here.
I also updated the red WANTED section (to the left) yesterday. Looking
for airline tix for Zeb next... I want to wrap up second/third
callbacks this month. Here's potential makeup artist Devon Shayla's website I finally found again. Some of that stuff is insane, like the crispy fat guy.
Too bad we're not doing that type of movie. (Or, can somebody say,
"DREAM SEQUENCE!") jk ... Check to make sure I got everyone's credits
right somebody. Actors, if you remember who worked on you, doublecheck
my credits pretty please. Thanks! ... Getting good feedback by some
folk. You never know who sees a website, now do ya? Don't want to jinx
it, I'll shut up. ... Welcome all our new Facebook friends. Feel free
to comment on our Facebook group page and spread the word!
km - 1-6-08
Redid GutterKing.TV again. :) Someone told me it looked like I was favoring some actors
over others and that is not true at all. Anyway, I put everyone I have
photos of so far all in one line and on one page. I'm kinda over lots
of clicks, so lets try a scroll. Email me what you think! Next I'm
going to do a version where no one is beat up.
km - 1-4-08
In the words of Neil Gaiman (because I can’t say it any better myself)…
May your coming year be filled with magic and
dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss
someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art
-- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope,
somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.
Mike Yebba, Ricardo Williams and Erica Ramirez are
in on Friday for their meetings. Blake Logan, Brandi Hanson and Jessica Blackmore
already had theirs. I'm building the site up on the backend. Just wait!
It'll be cool.
km - 1-2-08
Happy New Year! Here's some holiday music
from Dirty Red Ricky Gordon, who contributed alot of music to "The
Clinic," our first film (shot all over NYC) that should be coming out
on DVD soon! Check out the poster here. You may also notice there's a new pic at the back end of gutterking.tv. :) Voted on by my 14 year old nephew as the next one to post because its "hot".
km - 12-31-07 8:43pm
Even newer photos...
MERRY CHRISTMAS! (Click the screen, Casey. Duh.) Just having some fun.
I can email high-rez PSDs or TIFs to makeup people and the talent if
you want pro prints. Please don't print them off on your crappy home
deskjet. It would make me cry. And I'll have em archived if you want
them later. Anyway, cool, huh? ... Casey Clark, get on it, boy! We want
to add you to the group. Welcome Mike and all the new Facebook peeps.
Positive vibes back atcha! Spread the word. Lets add to our friends so
that more people can watch something grow from the beginning and say,
"I knew Mason Sharrow before he was famous." Or whatev. (He's a
stuntman.) ... Maybe someday we'll do a coffee table book all about the
film, and publish it ourself through Cafepress. Viva la indies! (using
corporate conglomerates... ummm... forget it.) ... Just saw the movie
Bella. Couldve used better editing, but that dude is pretty! (They did
a good job rolling that film out to the masses too.)
km - 12-24-07 3:57am
Drumroll, please...
km - 12-23-07 5:49am
We pick 15 packets of photos up at 5pm! Another
developing house screwed up and we don't get 4 packets back til
supposedly Monday now. NEVER AGAIN WILL I SHOOT FILM. Goodbye Christmas
bonus! Cha-ching! The rolls "lost" are the first 4 rolls we shot (the
earliest morning stuff day of shoot) and we expect them Monday, but
that's Christmas Eve, so who knows when we'll see em. Grrr! Could be
another week delay. ... In other news, we have a cool surprise for
everyone coming up on the site, maybe as early as tonite. Right Matt?
(wink)

New sneak preview snapshot at GutterKing.TV
- this time of finalist Brandi Hanson. I got the contact sheets back,
they look great and will get prints made of our favorites tomorrow and
posted hopefully Saturday. Erica's pic is above and here, and here is Ricardo's.
A new list of the finalists is on the left. Sorry if you wrote and I
haven't gotten back yet, I'm slammed. Start lifting weights guys. I
will get the training regimen to you asap. Hopefully shooting Khris
Gibston today, with Jen Hall doing makeup. I think we'll shoot Zeb when
he comes into town. I am really excited about the photos and the makeup
work so far. They went big, so be prepared.
km - 12-21-07
We got scooped! Here or here.
I will never shoot film again! Its all about instant gratification.
Being the first to post... jk ... Mad props to Doug at Green Room
Orlando.
km - 12-19-07
GutterKing.TV is LIVE,
with a one pic preview of finalist Erica Ramirez entitled "BEFORE"--as
in before makeup. Notice how we're going to make the photos as large as
possible. That took forever to get that code right. Phew!... We get the
prints back from the lab on Friday and Saturday, then more finalists
photos will appear. ... Ok, now about the makeup artists: FX artists
Mike B (Orlando) and Devon Shayla from NYC were scheduled with Leslee
(makeup artist for WESH2 News, the NBC affiliate here in O-town) who
did beauty and hair nearly all day. I really appreciated Leslee's
positive vibes and encouragement to the others thruout the day, as well
as the team's incredible skills. They worked together as if they had
been teammates for years (Mike and Devon were, actually) and it was
great to hear gasps of excitement and awe coming from the dept as we
ran past going back and forth from set to set. (We like pros who are
mature enough to pass around compliments in a competitive environment.
Thanks, Leslee!) Karolina Pawlak-Vallair, a friend of Blake Logan,
subbed in last minute for some missing folk--one twisted ankle, one car
trouble--and carried double the load with grace and aplomb! Then the
supersweet Constance Klosterman rounded out the afternoon, working on
numerous people as well, and even offered to help us break down! We
aprreciated the gesture. When a PA didnt show on time, Mason Sharrow
stepped up and ran errands--little does he know that his pictures
turned out as some of the best. You'll see soon--as long as the cool
goth chick at COLONIAL PHOTO prints them out well! Now onto
actresses--the actresses modelling was so intense, I caught myself
squinting behind the lens because their beauty was just too
overpowering. That sounds odd, but hey, I think I've proved I'm an open
book and you'll see when I post em. I hope I did em justice. Also, a
few times, Erica and Owen did so well at anger I thought they were
going to attack me. And that's not to single just a few out. Mike Yebba
and Justin Brown have flawless skin, it was tough to muss up the pretty
boys but the makeup FX artists did and they look real cool. (You can
find out what some of them look like in the "cuts and bruises" makeup
if you search our facebook friends pages, as some of the cellphone photos have leaked.
Tsk tsk.) Blake Logan, the resident Jack Sparrow, has good control over
his facial gestures. Ricardo Williams had the best nose FX job and
graces the above photo. Owen Miller will be happy to know we got some
tight photos of him bloodied up. Whoever brought the minty blood, good
move. :) It is now absolutely a statistical dead heat on who gets it
for the girls. Everyone brought their A game, making the job on our end
alot harder, and the 2nd callbacks even more crucial. Little do they
know we're doing two movies in 2008. (Oops! I spilled the beans!) More
on that in the Spring.
km - 12-19-07
Ricardo Williams as BOXER, above. Just a sneak peek
of the new GUTTERKING.TV (No color correction, etc. yet)... The shoot
was amazing. I am wiped out. We got the digital prints downloaded (only
1/3 of the days shoot were also shot digital) and we're sending the
rest of the film rolls out to a professional lab. Should take a week...
You'll see em all at the all-new GUTTERKING.TV. Thanks to everyone who
came out and gave it their best. AMAZING. More later....
km - 12-17-07
location for photoshoot, call times, and map were

means stuntmen etc. Come anytime 9-5, the earlier the better....

NUMBERS. ... So, I'm sitting here watching "The Next
Great American Band" while prepping things, and, in between wanting to
choke out the little teeny-bopper band, I started thinking about how
far we've come. We've done 4 scripts and 3 packages--about 5 inches thick of paper each before we got this far with this one. We also pitched FIVE
projects to studios, with them picking this one as the one that they'd
be most interested in. What's really crazy is if you think about how
many actor submissions we've had (4000!) and how many auditions we've taken. We've been auditioning since late AUGUST--that's 4 months of casting! So those that made the final 3 for each major role should be very, very proud.
We also already have nearly 24,000 hits on this page in December. And it's only half over.
Just thinking about numbers...

Just met the Florida Film Commission at the
Enzian/WIF Jingle Mingle and they are going to try to find us a
soundstage for the big photoshoot this weekend! Nice! We love the film
commission!

Location for Sunday's photoshoot is NOT locked. We
are looking for a new locale asap. ... In other news, our last film
Flying Tiger had a guy who really went to bat for us (who shall remain
nameless but is thanked immensely and I know he is surrounded by
angels). He said that he would show it to the powers that be at Starz,
Encore, and TBS. Instead, he showed it to top dawgs at CBS and ABC! How
amazing! They said that they were amazed at the production value on
such a tiny budget! I will post their comments if and when I get them.
That's a nice shot in the arm for doing things for the love of it and
the offchance the work goes somewhere in this crazy competitive
dog-eat-dog landscape filled with million dollar shows... We never
thought our film would go that far... Pretty snifty. The actors should
be very proud.
